MCR Team Member

Become a Member of the MCR Team!

The goal of the Mediation, Conflict Resolution, and Restorative Practices (MCR) Initiative is to provide our community with constructive, empathetic, and evidence-based approaches to resolving conflict and settling disputes that do not rise to the level of formal complaints or policy violations. We invite you to join a team of Northwestern faculty and staff working together to cultivate a more collaborative and inclusive campus environment.

Open to benefits eligible faculty and staff. The deadline to apply is May 30, 2025. 

Once trained, MCR team members will be available to provide mediation services to the Northwestern community upon request. Individuals seeking mediation services will be matched with team members based on availability and eligibility. Team members are not eligible to mediate disputes in which they have a conflict of interest including, but not limited to, mediation between parties within their own school or unit or with individuals they otherwise have close relationships with.  

The commitment to be an MCR team member means you will participate in the training(s), be available to offer mediation one time per academic year (approximately 6 hours per session), and engage with professional development and the learning community as much as possible.  

Becoming an MCR team member consists of the following:

  • Completing the . 
  • Completing the 40-hour mediation training through Northwestern’s School of Professional Studies certificate program (cost covered by benefit and the MCR Initiative),
  • Completing one additional preparatory training (2 hours), 
  • Committing to serve as an MCR team member for at least two academic years (responsibilities described below),  
  • Engaging in optional professional development sessions offered by internal and external partners, 
  • Participating in the MCR professional learning community as much as possible (e.g., reading groups, discussions, etc.). 

To become a team member, you must be able to attend the 40-hour mediation training through the School of Professional Studies from August 25th to 29th from 8am-5pm in-person on the Chicago campus. You must be present for all 40 hours to receive your certificate
